How to weigh a package at home
Weigh the sealed package, not the item. At home you can use a kitchen scale, luggage scale, or — carefully — a bathroom scale. Then compare rates.
Best home options
- Digital kitchen scale: best for mailers and small boxes that fit the platter. Read ounces.
- Luggage scale: hang a bag or strap a box if you can do it safely. Good for midweight parcels.
- Bathroom scale: stand on it, then stand on it holding the box, subtract. Precision is worse; round up.
- Postal / shipping scale: worth it if you ship weekly.
If the number is fuzzy
Round up to the next ounce or pound bracket. Low guesses create adjustments. You can also use the package weight calculator to add item + packing math.
