How to ship shoes
Shoes are heavier and more crush-prone than a t-shirt. The cheap way to ship shoes is usually a snug shoe box or small carton, not a poly mailer, then a commercial Ground label you compared live.
Box or mailer
Most sneakers and dress shoes should ride in a rigid box so the pair does not get folded. Soft slippers or knit shoes can go in a padded mailer if the buyer will accept a crease risk. Full decision table: poly mailer vs box.
Weight and size
- Include the shoe box, tissue, and outer carton if you double-box.
- A retail shoe box inside a much larger shipping cube is wasted inches — package size guide.
- Boots and multiple pairs add pounds fast. Weigh the sealed package.
Carrier choice
One pair of sneakers is often still a USPS Ground Advantage conversation. Heavier boots or a boxed pair going a long zone can make UPS interesting. Compare current shipping rates with the finished inches — do not reuse a clothing-mailer quote.
Packing details that prevent returns
- Keep the pair together (laces tied or bagged).
- Stuff toes if the shoe can collapse.
- Tape the outer box so it cannot open on a conveyor.
